dead poets society

These are a set of drawings of poets I made using quill and ink. In these and some other drawings that I have been doing, I have been getting back into pointillism.

I received two birthday presents...

...only they came 5 months late. I think hands-down present two is the best present.

Present 1: Dunkin Donut's free iced coffee today. What a great way to end the work day.

Present 2: The safe arrival of Ed back home to the states! This day has long been awaited for the past year and a half. It feels odd that when Ed called me last year and told me he was going to Iraq, and that he would be gone for a year and a half, it felt like it would be forever...I thought to myself "gee, by the time he gets back, you'll be almost done with junior year." This was something hard to fathom back then, but now that I am almost a Senior, it kinda scares the crap out of me. But a year and a half gone by, I have done a lot of growing in the meantime. Pray for everyone else that is still over there. My family got our soldier home safely, but there are still alot of other step-dads, grass mowing experts, flag pole putter-uppers, home depot lovers and dog chasers over there. Well--gotta paint. Chao.

This post is dedicated to you Ed!

Some old Favorites

I was looking through an old sketchbook from last semester and these are the ones that I really liked how they turned out. Chris, hope you like the hippos.

Finally A Minute to Breathe

Spring break greeted me a little earlier than usual this year. My sister, Amy, flew in from Cleveland for five days and just flew out today. We had beautiful weather Wednesday and part of Thursday, but it soon shifted to hail and snow on Friday. My break couldn't have come any sooner.

Thursday we trekked the entire span of Houston searching for Clinton street on the Lower East Side, but to my poor navigation skills, we walked alllllllllll the way west. So... on our way east we saw this billboard. The picture is dedicated to mom and Kate who think he is mighty fine.

Us after braving the hailstorm to get what?....icecream. haha

On Saturday, Amy and I went to see the yearly grouping of attractive firemen and policemen all in one place, also called the Saint Patrick's day parade. It didn't beat a Cleveland Saint Patrick's day Parade, but comes in a close second.

After the parade and irish pubs, Amy and I later met up with her old roommates from college and went to Park Slope for a party.

Scotland map

I finished up the map today for Adventure and sent it off to DC to be scanned. Amy comes tomorrow for partying in NYC for Spring Break and Ed comes home soon! A lot, a lot of good things...

Parsons Illustration is doing a competition w/ The Sims--make artwork that is inspired by the game, either positively or negatively. I am creating different illustrated vintage cigarette cartons that have women+animal hybrids on the front. Anyways, I found a stamp book with really inspiring imagery and color combinations.

I like the red and orange color combos in the bottom one

Imagine you are in the Second Grade again...

...and on your Saturday morning when you look foreward to watching cartoons, your mom drags you out to do errands with her. You go fill up the gas tank, mail some letters, go to the atm, pay the parking meter, and eventually help do laundry when you get back home. These drawings interpret what a child may imagine during that trip.

It's been a while since I posted. That's partly because I have been working on many different projects all this past week and now starting to complete the beginning of the batch. First, I found out last weekend that I along with Nick and Sam, were runners up with the Flatstock Poster Contest. Kudos to you guys and all the great posters that were submitted.

I also just got a call from an old friend who interned at Adventure the same time and is currently still there but in my old place as Art Intern. They are asking me to do a watercolor map of Scotland. WooHoo! It was like a godsend! It will be nice to make some money for France. I am just sending sketches off tonight, so hopefully go to a final this weekend.

I also finished an urban legend project that is for concepts. The parameters of the project evolved over the week, first taking place in Paris, then in New York. I just kept mine set in Paris. This is the little story I wrote up to accompany my illustration.

>>>>Back in the late 18th century during Marie Antoinette’s reign, there was a gardener who tended to Antoinette’s play village. She loved gardening but hated Marie Antoinette. While she would garden, she would ramble to the fish in the pond. She entrusted to the fish about how she despised Marie Antoinette, gabbing and gabbing to the fish knowing that they would never repeat her words again. The fish loved hearing the woman talk so much that they had to fight each other to poke their heads above the surface of the pond. The woman thought that the fish only wanted bread, so wrote them off as being greedy. After Marie Antoinette’s death, the gardener never returned to the garden. She much preferred seeing her own garden blossom. Her decision was quite spontaneous, so she never had spoken of it to the fish. Meanwhile, the fish did not know where the woman went, so even until today, every time a person comes toward the pond, the fish fight to the surface to see if it is the woman gardener who has returned. Many people think they are seeking bits of bread, but are actually looking for the return of the gardener. <<<<<
