I have been doing some research for an upcoming poster design that is brewing in the background. I could spend hours looking at books of old german, dutch, and french poster design. Here are a few of my favorite posters that I scanned for reference.
On a side note, I have some small news here to share with y'all. I will be going to PARIS this summer!! I am going for a two-week drawing class, called Drawing in Paris. I decided it on a whim, figuring that I need to study abroad before I graduate and it wont be as long as a semester, and I probably could still keep an internship if I land one for this summer. It is July 2nd-14th, so if anyone will be in Paris then, we should meet up. HAHA, never did I ever think of saying, "let's meet up in Paris."
I am super pumped for the new Parsons magazine that a collective of about 15-20 people working on it. I have to get my butt moving tonight to get my illos done. We are trying to pull it all together this week, articles, art, layout, and printouts. Pheew...I hope it happens.

TOY FAIR
Yesterday I went to the New York Toy Fair at the Javits Convention Center. It was a really interesting day to just see the kadrillion types of toys that are out there. Parsons was invited by a sculptor of toys that came to talk to my toy class last semester. The whole event is very exclusive, only people from the industry are invited, so our invitation was very generous on Brett's (the sculptor) behalf. The whole event felt a little awkward though. I wore a badge that said, "GUEST" in big capitalized letters. All of the vendors/exhibitors wouldn't even talk to people unless they were "BUYERS" which makes sense, but made me feel weeeeeeeeee small. None the less, I saw a lot of great companies that use beautiful illustrators to adorn toys, books, baby clothes. I got many of their cards for later use.
School is picking up. Things are starting to build up w/ more intense projects. I think I figured out a more successful story-line for my children's book, I will be starting to develop my website (keep an eye out for it in a few months, it will just be my name, lindseybalbierz.com), plus drawings for my painting class. the joy of art school. For now, here is a drawing I did for my concepts class of a house from Marie Antoinette's village in France. I saw it when I went to France in 2004. How time flies.

So I finally finished my two concert posters. It took extra, double, x's 2 the amount of time because I had to halftone everything. Meaning, I only used 2 colors, but made shades of it by making the different shades by using dots of the color at different frequencies. Meaning, this project was often accompanied by some choice words as well. This one, I posted the original a few days ago, this one is the halftone version.

Also went to the Parsons, publication meeting today. There will be a Parsons newspaper/publication coming out this semester. It will the first one since the last one 3 years. There was a good turn out, so there will be a multitude of talent working on it. I will probably have a few illustrations in the first issue and hopefully will continue doing it through this semester. Keep an eye out for it, there will be some action going on inside the elevators in a few weeks.

I watched the movie, One Hour Photo, this weekend, and the child predator-like behavior of the character played by Robin Williams inspired this series of drawings. (Halli, there, I watched a movie and was inspired..you win) The drawings are more on the more stereo-typical end, but they should be viewed as a group to show how these ppl lure kids w/ 'saccarine-sweet' type gifts.
